2024 Walk for Parkinson

Barry's Brigade

Dear Family and Friends

I would like to thank everyone who helped make the 2023 Walk for Parkinson’s such as success. Last year we raised over $12,000! Your support makes such a difference in Central Florida. All the money raised stays in Central Florida to support the many programs to help manage this terrible disease.  These programs are critical for us with PD and the caregivers.

I cannot believe it has been 7 years since I was diagnosed with PD. I have been so fortunate to have the support of my family and friends to help me fight this terrible disease.  We had two weddings and three grand kids and another one coming in March. I have so much to look forward to as the grandkids keep me young and help me stay strong. I would like to update you on my progression.

I continue to not let Parkinson’s define who I am and how I am going to live my life.  A lot has happened over the past year, some good and some not so good. My disease has progressed slightly each year which is normal for Parkinsons.  Keeping the progression at a slow pace is what is most important, and the best way to do that is with exercise. I am working hard to get back to playing Pickle Ball.  Some of my injuries, like shoulder and rotator cuff, have slowed me down in this department but I’m happy to announce that I am back at Rock Steady Boxing as I was really missing the workouts and comradery.  The boxing training has been so good for both my mind and body.  It allows me to talk with others that are in the same boat as me.  It helps me feel I am not alone. While I have progressed some, both my neurologists feel I am doing well and are pleased.  Exercise, diet, and quality sleep are the best medicine for me and all with PD.

Lastly, I want to thank my incredible wife Beth and wonderful daughters and son in-laws, Brooke & Dylan and Jordan & Dylan.  They are the ones who see the good days and the bad.  I am having a lot more good days and hopefully we will be spending a lot of time at the beach with our grandkids and family and friends.  With all your support, Parkinson’s Disease will be a thing of the past.  Let’s make this the best Parkinson’s walk ever.

Bless all of you.

Barry
